Scleral Contact Lenses & custom lenses

Why choose Mission Eye Care for your Contact Lenses?
At Mission Eye Care, we specialize in fitting scleral lenses and other custom designed contact lenses. Our clinic utilizes sophisticated new technologies that enable us to design fully custom lenses tailored to your eye shape, allowing safe, comfortable wear, and the clearest vision possible.
We are the only clinic in Alberta with three eye doctors residency trained in this field, and the only accredited non-university teaching site in Canada for specialty contact lens residents. Our doctors are continuously sought after to teach and lecture across the continent. Our reputation and expertise in this field gives us access to the latest technology and lenses, allowing us to fit even those who have had difficulties with contact lenses in the past.
Contact Lenses for Keratoconus
Many patients with eye diseases such as keratoconus, or post surgical eyes (corneal transplant, refractive surgery) have poor vision with conventional lenses. Our expertise is in the fitting of scleral or hybrid lenses to give both clear vision and good comfort not possible with conventional designs. We take topographical maps of the exact irregularities and then custom design a lens that provides the ideal correction. Many patients are astonished to see how good their vision can be, and we take great pride in the work we do and the rewarding feeling of giving patients back their gift of sight!
Scleral Contact Lenses
Scleral contact lenses are large diameter rigid lenses that rest on the white part of the eye while vaulting over the cornea. They provide excellent vision and comfort for those who cannot see well or get good comfort with conventional lenses. They are able to be customized for many different eye conditions such as keratoconus and post transplant. We can also fit multifocal or progressive designs even for those with very high or irregular astigmatism.
NEW! We are proud to be the first clinic in Canada with 3D scleral mapping technology. By taking an accurate map of the entire front surface of the eye, we can design the most comfortable and accurate scleral lenses possible. A more precise custom fit means better lens comfort, better vision, and safer, healthier long term wear.

Manufacture
EyePrint Prosthetic Scleral Lenses
We are one of the few clinics in Canada to fit the EyePrint Prosthetic contact lens. This lens is 3D printed from a custom mold taken of the front of the eye. This specialized lens allows for the safest and most comfortable wearing experience, as well as the sharpest, most stable vision available in a contact lens today. Because it is based on an exact mold of your eye shape, it can be used to fit even the most complex post surgical eyes.
BostonSight Scleral Lenses
We are also the first Canadian clinic to offer the affordable alternative to the BostonSight PROSE treatment, the BostonSight SCLERAL lens. This lens is based on data gathered from over 7000 wearers and allows us to provide high levels of customization at a much lower cost than fully customized molded lenses.

Hybrid Contact Lenses
Mission Eye Care is one of the only clinics in Alberta that fits the entire family of SynergEyes hybrid lenses. Hybrids are suitable for keratoconus, post corneal transplant, and ectasia from failed refractive surgery. These lenses are also great for those who like the vision of rigid gas permeable (RGP) lenses but want the comfort of soft lenses. They are available in multifocal designs and last about 6 months.

Soft and Rigid Gas Permeable Lenses
We also fit specialty soft and rigid gas permeable lenses such as Rose-K, piggyback and other designs for mild to moderate cases. Rigid gas permeable lenses provide a cost effective solution but are not as stable or comfortable as scleral lenses in more advanced cases. We also have comfortable and convenient soft lens options such as the Kerasoft Thin, a custom soft lens design providing excellent vision for mild to moderately irregular post-transplant corneas and keratoconus.
Inserting, removing and caring for Scleral and Hybrid Lenses
Scleral and Hybrid lenses are extremely comfortable and very easy to care for. The insertion and removal process is different from other types of lenses and our staff will go through this process with you. We have provided these video that will recap the key points from your in-office training.
